KTA Super Stores’ Kokua i Na Kula program raises $100,000 for schools

HILO — KTA Super Stores announced the results of its Annual Kokua i Na Kula program. The campaign has given schools throughout Hawaii Island the opportunity to earn their share of $100,000 from the Help the Schools program.

For the last 26 years, the program has benefited Hawaii Island schools, providing more than $2 million for capital improvements, beautification projects, school equipment and extracurricular activities. This year, there were 77 participating schools that shared in the $100,000, with each school earning anywhere from $60 to $9,150.

The five top-earning schools were Waikoloa Elementary and Middle School, Hilo High School, Waiakea High School, Konawaena High School and Kealakehe High School.

“We’re immensely proud of this program and the positive impact it has had on our schools and the community,” KTA Super Stores marketing manager and community relations director Pearl Daimaru-Orozco said. “Thanks to our customers, we can continue supporting our keiki throughout the island.”

The program required that participants shop at KTA Super Stores from July 31 through Sept. 10 and buy participating products marked with the light bulb icon and then simply donate the points attributed to each individual product to their favorite school at checkout.

Students were also able to earn additional points for their school by using the special KTA-Kokua i Na Kula Snapchat filter to post a photo on Facebook or Instagram, and KTA Gift Cards were awarded to randomly selected entries.
